Gidel at Altera Innovators Day 2026: FPGA Imaging, Sensor Fusion & Edge AI
Gidel will participate in Altera Innovators Day Tokyo 2026 on December 1, showcasing FPGA-based imaging and Edge AI technologies. These solutions address high-performance machine vision, autonomous systems, and multi-sensor applications.
As an Altera Solution Acceleration Partner (ASAP), Gidel will demonstrate how Altera FPGA technology combines with NVIDIA Jetson AI to support deterministic image acquisition, real-time FPGA processing, Quality+ Compression, sensor fusion, and AI-based detection, tracking, and classification.
Visitors will explore two demonstrations featuring FantoVision40-CXP12 and real-time C-UAS detection and classification.
Demonstration 1: Real-Time IR/RGB Sensor Fusion with FantoVision40-CXP12
FantoVision40-CXP12 is a compact embedded Edge AI imaging system combining Altera FPGA technology, high-bandwidth CoaXPress-12 acquisition, and NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX computing.
The demonstration will feature simultaneous acquisition from two CoaXPress-12 cameras, one infrared (IR) and one RGB Bayer, with real-time processing of 13 MP images at 30 FPS.
The FPGA performs deterministic acquisition, image preprocessing, enhancement, and Quality+ Compression before transferring image data to NVIDIA Jetson. The Jetson performs real-time IR/RGB sensor fusion and AI processing.
Key capabilities include:
- Multi-camera CoaXPress-12 acquisition with up to 4 × CXP-12 connections
- Real-time IR/RGB sensor fusion on NVIDIA Jetson
- Deterministic FPGA preprocessing with low latency
- Real-time image enhancement and processing
- Quality+ Compression to reduce downstream image bandwidth requirements
- NVIDIA Jetson AI for detection, tracking, and classification
- Compact embedded architecture combining FPGA processing and Edge AI
By offloading acquisition and computationally intensive image-processing operations to the FPGA, FantoVision reduces CPU/GPU processing overhead and makes more Jetson computing resources available for sensor fusion and AI applications.
Demonstration 2: Real-Time C-UAS Detection & Classification
Gidel will also present a real-time Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) detection and classification demonstration featuring FPGA-based imaging and NVIDIA Jetson Edge AI.
The demonstration highlights the use of real-time image acquisition, FPGA processing, and AI-based object detection and classification for applications involving UAVs, autonomous systems, surveillance, and security.
Watch the real-time C-UAS demonstration
The demonstration illustrates how FPGA preprocessing and embedded AI can support imaging applications that require low latency, deterministic acquisition, and efficient use of computing resources.
Altera FPGA Processing and NVIDIA Jetson Edge AI
FantoVision combines two complementary processing architectures in one compact system.
The Altera FPGA handles high-bandwidth camera acquisition, deterministic preprocessing, real-time image enhancement, and compression directly in the imaging pipeline.
The NVIDIA Jetson performs IR/RGB sensor fusion and AI workloads, including object detection, tracking, and classification.
This separation of processing tasks reduces the workload associated with image acquisition and FPGA-offloaded operations on the Jetson, while supporting efficient multi-sensor processing close to the cameras.
For engineers evaluating high-performance imaging systems, Gidel also develops PCIe frame grabbers & image processing solutions for host-based applications. These platforms support CoaXPress, GigE Vision, and Camera Link interfaces, with optional real-time FPGA processing, image enhancement, and compression.
