Gidel’s FantoVision edge computers are engineered to meet the rigorous demands of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and drone-based imaging and vision systems. Combining a compact form factor, ruggedized design, and powerful FPGA-accelerated processing, FantoVision delivers unmatched real-time performance for airborne and unmanned platforms where size, weight, and power (SWaP) are critical constraints.
With dimensions of just 13.4 cm x 9 cm x 6 cm and a weight of 750 grams, FantoVision is ideal for integration into a wide range of UAV systems, including multirotor drones, fixed-wing aircraft, and UAV derivatives such as UGVs and autonomous robotic platforms. Its ability to interface with multiple high-performance cameras—including 10 GigE Vision, CoaXPress, and Camera Link—enables synchronized multi-camera capture at up to 40 Gb/s, a key enabler for applications like aerial inspection, real-time mapping, situational awareness, and ISR.
FantoVision supports real-time image pre-processing on FPGA, AI inference on NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX, and compression options including JPEG, lossless, H.264/H.265, and Gidel’s Quality+. FPGA processing can be 50x or more faster than software, significantly reducing offline post-processing workloads. Built-in ROI and real-time compression also extend recording capabilities by optimizing bandwidth and storage use.
Gidel’s ISP cores such as HDR and dynamic white balance deliver real-time image enhancement with latency as low as one frame, enabling high-quality imaging in dynamic lighting conditions. The ability to embed ISP functions directly on FPGA provides a powerful edge-processing platform ideal for time-critical applications.
With up to 2 TB of local storage, FantoVision supports extended autonomous missions with continuous high-resolution logging. And for applications requiring tight SWaP constraints or custom system integration, Gidel offers modular design options based on compact FPGA modules, allowing flexible deployment across diverse UAV platforms.
FantoVision’s modular and customizable architecture empowers developers to tailor acquisition, processing, and protocol layers—delivering scalable, intelligent edge computing for mission-critical UAV and unmanned imaging applications.

WatchAdvanced vision systems rely on one or multiple high-resolution, high-speed cameras. These capture and deliver multiple gigapixels per second that need to be processed and/or compressed in real-time. While camera sensor technology and supporting interfaces are quickly evolving, traditional PCIe/CPU/GPU-based PC-architectures are lacking the required performance to capture, process, and store images at such data rates.
